Did you ever lose your interest when using your action cam or GoPro? “Out of memory” is the situation that you sometimes faced with while enjoying the beautiful scene or unforgettable moments; you definitely can’t stand with it.
The memory capacity is always an important thing you need to care before doing any trips, especially for someone who is in need of taking photos or recording videos.
The memory capacity is also as important as battery capacity. Therefore GoPro price does not include the memory card price, it depends on how much capacity you need to use.
How to Choose the Best Micro SD Card for GoPro?
Before choosing the right micro SD card for GoPro, here are all the terms and specifications you to know to make sure you get the right microSD card for your device.
Card Type and Capacity
When it comes to the card type, the two main kinds you’ll want to consider are SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) and SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity). The only real difference between the two is how much storage they offer. SDHC cards contain 4GB to 32GB, while SDXC cards typically pack 64GB cards to 2TB.
Although most devices accept the SDXC standard for microSD cards with 32GB or more, some devices still only accept lower capacity MicroSDHC memory cards.
SD cards come in four-speed classes: 10, 6, 4, and 2. Class 2 cards are the slowest and class 10 cards are the fastest. The class number indicates the write speeds in megabytes per second (MB/s), thus Class 2 = 2MB/s, Class 4 = 4MB/s, Class 6 = 6MB/s, and Class 10 = 10MB/s.
In general, it’s a good idea to get a high-speed SD card (class 10) for your GoPro action camera especially if you’re shooting a high-resolution video.
UHS is the highest theoretical speed of each card. This is a good indicator for a microSD card shot speeds. UHS-I Cards have a maximum speed of 104 MB/s, while UHS-II cards have a maximum speed of 312 MB/s.
Finally, there’s the top high-end card’s speed class rating of U1 and U3. It indicates the minimum speed of an SD card will write. U1 supports at least a 10MB/s write speed, and U3 cards provide at least a 30MB/s write speed. These cards will fit if you’re video recording in UltraHD or 4K.
The Right MicroSD Card for Your Device
For GoPro users needing a microSD card, consult the company’s list of recommended cards but in general, GoPros require a minimum of Class 10, but U1 or U3 is better speed classifications.
The GoPro HERO camera only supports a 32GB SDHC microSD card, but the HERO 3 Black Edition, HERO 3+, HERO+, and HERO+ LCD cameras support SDXC microSD cards with up to 64GB of capacity. Meanwhile, the HERO 4 and HERO Session cameras are compatible with SDXC microSD cards of up to 128GB.
